19th November 2016 ~ Poetry Challenge ~ Day 19

2016 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 19
By: Robert Lee Brewer ~ November 19, 2016

For today’s prompt, write a poem about a commonplace location. The poem could be about the local grocery store, library, or something even more intimate–like your kitchen or bathroom. Or it could be standing in line at the DMV or post office.

I have decided to write a villanelle style poem in response to the prompt.
Margaret thinks it’s wonderful.

SUPERMARKET SHOPPING

by John Yeo

Got the bread, got the milk, we’re lining up in the queue,
Supermarkets are always easy to get the shopping in time.
Darling will you quickly go and get me some Kidney stew?

~

There are three people in front, for the cashier to get through,
The lady at the front has enough to hold up the line.
Got the bread, got the milk, we’re lining up in the queue.

~

The lady with four children is wiping baby with a tissue .
That elderly fellow will be quick with just a case of wine.
Darling will you quickly go and get me some Kidney stew?

~

I don’t believe that lady is still there, and complaining too.
The old fellow is looking pale but I think he will be fine.
Got the bread, got the milk, we’re lining up in the queue.

~

Time is marching on, and we’re stuck with this motley crew.
Now the children are playing up, having a wonderful time.
Darling will you quickly go and get me some Kidney stew?

~

We’ve been stuck here so long that baby has done a phew!
Next time I will save our time and do the shopping online.
Got the bread, got the milk, we’re lining up in the queue,
Darling will you quickly go and get me some Kidney stew?
