2016 November PAD Chapbook Challenge: Day 20
By: Robert Lee Brewer ~ November 20, 2016
For today’s prompt, pick a popular saying, make it the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. Possible titles might include: “May the Force Be With You,” “It’s a Bird; It’s a Plane; It’s Superman,” “Just Do It,” or “Break a Leg.” I hope you break many legs with this prompt–in a poetic sense.
I’ve decided to write a sonnet in response to this prompt.

BREAK THE ICE
by John Yeo
A vision of perfection, so lovely
Intelligent and admired by all.
Distant, yet the centre of the party
So desirably unattainable.
A pity that your solo attitude
Erects barriers to companionship
An overture would need a warm prelude
Rejection would follow just one small slip.
Feelings generated by cool blue eyes
Overtake my senses by deep desire
To take the plunge and take you by surprise
Melt the icy shield with warm loving fire.
Beautiful iceberg; I’d pay any price;
To share warmth within your lovely ice.
